Exploring Silence
To recover silence as part of everyday life
.Friday 8 – Sunday 10 June 2012
Glenthorne Quaker Centre and Guest House
Easedale Road, Grasmere, Ambleside, LA22 9QH.
These days we all need to grow into silence. There is plenty of quiet space at Glenthorne. The weekend will offer times of shared silence and opportunities for private meditation; also short talks and time for reflection together. In these ways, on our own, and with others, we hope we may discover more about the challenges and fruitfulness of silence at the heart of everyday life.
Vera Dolton is a Quaker who finds ecumenical life enriching. She writes, ‘I have many years of experience of sharing times of silence, contemplative prayer and reflection and of helping to enable such sharing. I find that in silence, reflection and sharing our understanding and fellowship are deepened.’
Cameron Butland is Vicar of Grasmere and Rydal with wide experience of working with multi-faith groups and in multi-cultural settings. He writes, ‘Silence needs to be restored to a central place in prayer and worship and Christian Meditation in Cumbria is helping to accomplish this.’
