All churches are made up of lots of different people, some paid but mostly volunteers who give their time to assist with the various aspects of church life. To help familiarise you with some of the faces you’ll meet at Kendal URC, here are a few introductions:

Nick Andrews, Treasurer |
|
Hello, I’m Nick Andrews and I’ve been Treasurer at Kendal URC for about fifteen years. Before we moved to Kendal, I worked for Abbey National, latterly as a project manager until they were taken over by Santander. I have always been a keen hill walker and prior to moving here, visited Cumbria several times each year, sometimes staying at the URC Windermere Centre. Once retired, I spent a period of time as a walk leader for HF Holidays. I am now involved with the local walking groups as well. I have a variety of other interests – particularly musical, I endeavour to play the piano and have joined a local choir. I’m married to Sheila, we have two children and two grandchildren.

My URC journey began at Upminster URC in Essex. I first became an Elder there, as well as helping out with the Brownies and Guides. I worked in London for 11 years, at URC Church House as Personal Assistant to two General Secretaries and two Assembly Moderators. During this time, I attended many General Assemblies and Mission Councils, working closely behind the scenes! I was also introduced to the URC’s Windermere Centre (sadly closed now) where our love of the Lakes grew, never realising that we would one day live in Cumbria. I have been a member at Kendal URC for 15 years, becoming an Elder and having various roles, including church secretary for a few years. I started up the Prayer Shawl group over 10 years ago and am now getting involved in our Eco-Church journey. I am married to Nick, have two children and two grandchildren. My hobbies include crafting, reading, going away in our caravan and foreign travel. |

Mark Hamblett |
|
My name is Mark Hamblett and I’m an Elder at Kendal URC. I have been a member at Kendal for around 3 years, since moving here from North Lancashire in 2020. I regularly lead worship at 106, as well as other URCs in the local area; and I love it! At home, I live with my husband, Neil. We enjoy our rural life, selling eggs from our hens and spending as much time as possible in the garden. In my employment, I am the CEO of a Multi-Academy Trust and love working in education, having been a primary school teacher for the last 22 years, 13 of which have been as headteacher. In my spare time, I teach Zumba and love to exercise in groups or on my own at the gym, which helps to keep on top of my other loves; eating out and baking!
