Wheel Mission – Carver, cards, cafe, cake and communion… Posted: 10 Sep 2010 01:33 PM PDT 14th August
The Wheel Mission ended with a trumpet blast and a welcoming crowd at Carver Memorial Church Windermere where the Cumbria Area Day had attracted about a hundred people drawn from most of the URC congregations in Cumbria. The day began with worship and then people found their way into a variety of different activities from card making, to drama, singing to prayer walks. The new developments at Carver are nearly complete. We were blessed with fine weather. Rev Rachel Poolman led a cafe style final communion of which we had had a foretaste as the bread had been baking throughout the day had been smelling delicious. I thought back to the day at Macclesfield when a group gathered to wish me well on this journey and through all the experiences and peoples I had met since. I thought of the large team of people who had made it possible – from the ride co-ordinators, to those who had offered me hospitality, to the many people who had simply introduced their projects to me. Amongst them all I want to especially thank the office staff, particularly Mrs Hazel Wall for her invaluable assistance, printing maps, arranging train tickets and generally keeping things in order and to the Revd. Gary Gotham who has been uploading the pictures and text to the Synod website. We are producing a booklet of the Wheel Mission – contact the Synod Office here for more details. In addition, we hope that many of you will even now have 9th July 2011 in your diaries for a Big Day Out at Morecambe when we can meet and celebrate together. More details soon. Enjoy the rest of your summer, Yours in Christ Richard |
